This relaxed bistro is located on the only sandy beach on this Croatian island. Lumbarda is the main wine town where some surprisingly good white is made. This restaurant was recommended by our AirBnB hosts and it’s very good.
We sat outside where most of the tables are located for lunch on a breezy cloudy day. A cheery smiling girl with clear and willing English brought us a bottle of grk which is the signature white wine of Korcula, produced nowhere else in the world apparently. Interestingly we’ve found that the other popular white grape, posip, produces more consistently fragrant wine, and grk (as it was here) is often a bit over-acidic.
Choices for lunch were straightforward. A large mixed pizza was absolutely dazzling in its flavour and consistency and a real bargain at about C$12. Traditional Croatian beef pasta was twice that price but also very tasty.
Prices in this happy restaurant are a fraction of those in the Old Town which is the tourist and small cruise ship destination. We have found the trick on this interesting coastal island is to suss out small quality spots and avoid the overpriced tourist traps mainly in the quaint and beautiful Old Town.
Food 9.3, service 8.9, ambience 8.9, value 9.2, peace and quiet 9.0
We went back a second time and the pizzas were if anything better, some of the best we’ve had anywhere. I’ve adjusted the food score.
